CooksyUp – Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 24, 2026
1. Privacy contact
If you have any questions about your personal data, you can contact us at: support@cooksyup.com.
2. Overview
You can use CooksyUp without an account: in that case, your kitchen data stays on your device.
If you create an account and enable sync or shared kitchen features, some data is hosted in the cloud (Google Firebase) to support backup, multi-device sync, and sharing with members of your group.
CooksyUp does not sell your personal data and does not show targeted advertising in the app.
3. Data stored on your device
Whether or not you use an account, CooksyUp stores the following locally on your device, including:
- ingredients, everyday items, and quantities;
- recipes (including your own recipes) and cooking history;
- shopping list;
- selected kitchen equipment;
- app preferences.
When you cook, CooksyUp may automatically adjust your ingredient quantities to reflect what you actually used.
CooksyUp may also suggest meal ideas based on your available ingredients and the equipment you have.
4. User account
Creating an account is optional for local use, but required to invite or join a shared kitchen.
You can create an account with email and password (email verification required) or Sign in with Apple.
Account-related data may include: email address, Firebase user ID, display name, and profile photo (avatar).
5. Cloud-synced data
If you use an account and enable sync or shared kitchen features, the following data may be stored and synced via Firebase:
- ingredients and quantities;
- shopping list;
- kitchen equipment;
- custom recipes (metadata and content);
- meal planning;
- favorites;
- recipe photos (Firebase Cloud Storage).
In a shared kitchen, members of the same group can see the group’s shared data. CooksyUp does not offer a public profile.
6. Transactional emails
CooksyUp sends transactional emails via Resend from no-reply@cooksyup.com, including:
- email address verification;
- password reset (where applicable).
These emails contain links to cooksyup.com (for example, email verification). We do not send marketing newsletters without your explicit consent.
7. Photo access
CooksyUp may request access to your photo library and/or camera only to:
- add an image to a recipe or an item;
- sync or share a recipe photo (if you choose to do so).
Photos are not analyzed for advertising or profiling purposes.
8. Sub-processors and third-party services
CooksyUp relies on service providers to operate the app:
- Google Firebase (Auth, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Analytics) — hosting and processing of account and sync data. Data may be hosted outside Canada (including the United States). Google policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
- Resend — transactional email delivery.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, App Store, and subscription management. Apple policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Firebase Analytics may collect aggregated usage events and technical information (device model, iOS version, app version) to improve stability and performance. This data is not used to serve targeted advertising within CooksyUp.
9. Retention and deletion
Accounts created with email and password but not verified may be automatically deleted after a period of inactivity.
You can delete your account from the app (My Profile → Account Management). This removes your authentication account and, within a reasonable timeframe, associated cloud data (best effort for stored files).
Data stored only on your device can be erased by resetting the app or deleting its data from iOS settings.
10. User rights
Under Québec’s Law 25 and, where applicable, the GDPR, you may request access, correction, or deletion of your data by contacting support@cooksyup.com.
You may withdraw consent by signing out, deleting your account, or leaving a shared kitchen group.
11. Security
CooksyUp applies reasonable technical and organizational measures to reduce the risks of unauthorized access, loss, or alteration of your data, including encrypted communications (HTTPS) and Firestore and Cloud Storage access rules.
As no system is completely secure, we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we strive to protect your information.
12. Changes to this privacy policy
This privacy policy may be updated at any time to reflect changes to the app or the legal framework.
The date at the top of this document indicates the latest version in effect. By continuing to use the app after an update, you accept the revised policy.
